My story

I made the decision to travel to Turkey for dental treatment in early 2022, and if I’m honest, it’s not something I ever expected I would do. In the UK, I had a crown fitted with the NHS that refused to stay put and despite several trips to the dentist I felt like I was getting nowhere. Frustrated, in pain and tired of going in circles trying to speak to someone, I decided to look into a more permanent solution. I had always been self conscious of my teeth, so decided now was the time to finally do something about it.

I signed up for private dental care and booked a consultation to look into the option of veneers… it’s safe to say, I didn’t get much further than the initial quote of £25,000.

I had heard the ‘Turkey Teeth’ horror stories, but after the shock of the initial quote and feeling like I was running out of options – I started to look into it. I spend some time looking at different sites, reading reviews (trying to avoid the clickbait on the Daily Mail) and researching various clinics around the Antalya area. My key areas I wanted to know about were around the quality of the materials and facilities, what would happen if there were any issues after the treatment and if the prices being quoted were realistic… or was I going to be hit with a huge bill on arrival.

I started speaking to Ozzy early in 2022 and after only a few text conversions  I knew I had found the right option for me.

Ozzy, the patient coordinator, was responsive, knowledgeable and able to offer a better service over WhatsApp than I’d ever experienced in the UK.

Booking was straight forward, I was provided with two options of hotel and after a quick flick through TripAdvisor decided to go with Ozzy’s recommendation – The Falcon, an adult only, all inclusive hotel, located right on the beach. We agreed on the date to start the treatment and I booked my flights for four weeks.

I was picked up from the airport in a swanky private transfer and taken to the hotel where I had the first night to get to know the area and settle in. Ozzy, who was available to answer any questions throughout the entire process, had text to let me know a car would be arriving to collect me at 10am and he would meet me at the clinic in the morning.

I don’t know exactly what I was expecting when I arrived, but the clinic couldn’t be further from the green leather chairs and peeling paint of dentists back home. It was like a luxury hotel reception – state of the art, clean and very clearly designed to provide the best possible experience for patients.

In that first appointment I had x-rays of my teeth taken,  a quick introduction with the dentist to chat through any last minute questions and a final consultation where I was able to select the colour and shape of the veneers I wanted. After 20 minutes, the dentist and I were both happy and I went to reception to pay… and I paid the exact price that was quoted – no hidden extras or surprises!

The first part of the treatment started soon after, in total I spent around 3 hours in the dentist that morning including the x-rays, consultation and first half of the treatment. I was back in the hotel just after lunch time, where I spent the rest of the day relaxing and waiting for the anaesthetic to wear off.

The next morning I was picked up from the hotel again and after a short car ride, was back in the chair to have my temporary teeth fitted. All in all, I think it was over and done within less than an hour. From here the rest of the time was mine to enjoy!

My final appointment would be in three days time to fit my permanent veneers, so I spent the next few days around the pool exploring and enjoying the local area (and the beers).

The whole experience was pain free, both in terms of the actual treatment, and in the simplicity and organisation of the process. The results, not to sound cliche, really are life changing. I hadn’t even made it home from the airport before I received the first compliment, ‘You’ve got lovely teeth! Are they natural?’. I hadn’t told anyone about travelling for the treatment but it’s safe to say I couldn’t tell people about my experience quickly enough. And this is where Our Whisper Matters started.

I found myself having conversations daily with people who wanted to know more about my experience; What did I have done? How much was it? Does it damage your teeth?

Our Whisper Matters is not only here to share truthful experiences from real people, but to be a transparent platform to help people in the position I was in. Saving the hesitation, hours of research and removing any risk.

For me this wasn’t just a cost effective option – the treatment, materials, equipment and dentists are of the highest standard and this, without doubt, was the best dental experience I’ve ever had.
